Ken Adams focuses on litigation strategy and the resolution of complex disputes. Before founding Adams Holcomb, he was a senior litigation partner at the law firm of Dickstein Shapiro LLP. For more than 30 years he concentrated on litigating and resolving the most complex, multifaceted disputes the firm was called upon to handle. He is ranked in the 2007 and 2008 editions of Chambers USA: America's Leading Lawyers for Business as a leading individual in the area of Antitrust for the District of Columbia. In 2006, Mr. Adams was named one of The Best Lawyers in America in antitrust law and was listed in Lawdragon's Leading Lawyers. In 2005 he was selected by his peers and by the Legal Times of Washington as the leading antitrust lawyer in Washington, DC.

Representative Matters

  • Representation of a group of food, beverage, and nutritional supplement companies that purchased more than $3 billion worth of bulk vitamins products in actions to recover overcharges from an international price fixing cartel. The cases were settled for the largest recoveries in antitrust history. In re Vitamins Antitrust Litigation.
  • Representation of a group of major poultry and hog producers that purchased methionine from members of a worldwide price fixing cartel. In re Methionine Antitrust Litigation.
  • Representation of a group of foreign steel mills that purchased graphite electrodes from members of a worldwide price fixing cartel. In re Graphite Electrodes Antitrust Litigation.
  • Representation of a group of major food manufacturers that purchased citric acid from members of a worldwide price fixing cartel. In re Citric Acid Antitrust Litigation.
  • Representation of a group of poultry and animal feed companies that purchased lysine from members of a worldwide price fixing cartel. In re Amino Acid Lysine Antitrust Litigation.

Complex Dispute Resolution

  • Resolution of price fixing claims brought against members of a cartel, through the use of a "baseball arbitration" proceeding. In re Linerboard Antitrust Litigation.
  • Representation of flight attendants in a class action settlement alleging employment discrimination. The matter was settled with a substantial recovery for the flight attendants. Kehe v. Delta Air Lines.
  • One of the architects of a consensual plan to allocate among nearly 40,000 plaintiffs of more than $600 million recovered from Exxon and other defendants in litigation arising from the Exxon Valdez Oil Spill.
  • Resolution of hundreds of asbestos injury claims on behalf of marine engineers exposed to asbestos insulation while working about ocean-going steamships.
  • Participation in agreement among asbestos defendants and insurers to allocate the costs of defending and resolving tens of thousands of asbestos personal injury lawsuits.
  • Participation in "mass-tort" settlements of personal injury lawsuits involving Agent Orange, Dalkon Shield and breast implants.

Professional Activities
Mr. Adams is a member of the bars of the District of Columbia, the U.S. Supreme Court, and the U.S. Court for Berlin, and has practiced before state and federal courts throughout the United States. He is a frequent speaker and lecturer, and has chaired national conferences. He was one of a small number of private practitioners invited to participate with state and federal court judges in a two-day conference addressing innovative means for resolving mass tort cases.

Mr. Adams earned his undergraduate degree at Yale University (1967) and his law degree at the University of Chicago Law School (1970).
