Mr. Leonardo concentrates primarily on advising clients in complex multiparty and multidistrict litigation. Before joining Adams Holcomb, he served as an Assistant District Attorney with the Manhattan District Attorney's Office where he investigated and prosecuted felony offenses. He later joined Dickstein Shapiro LLP, where he was responsible for handling complex antitrust litigation and other large commercial disputes. Over the years, his practice consequently has encompassed a wide range of cases and subject matters, including ones related to the agribusiness, chemical, energy, financial services, insurance, industrial machinery, and telecommunications industries. His involvement in a broad spectrum of matters has allowed him to successfully represent clients in courts located throughout the country.

Representative Matters

  • Represent companies in an antitrust action brought against several global consumer electronics manufacturers for price fixing and anticompetitive conduct in the TFT-LCD panel market. In re TFT-LCD Antitrust Litigation.
  • Represent over tweny companies in an antitrust action brought against several global chemical manufacturers for price fixing and anticompetitive conduct in the urethane chemicals market. In re Urethane Antitrust Litigation.
  • Successfully represented over sixty companies in two year antitrust action brought against several global chemical manufacturers for alleged price fixing; efforts resulted in favorable settlements exceeding $300 million dollars. In re Methionine Antitrust Litigation.
  • Successfully represented Nasdaq-listed, Fortune 100 multinational telecommunications corporation in stock-option backdating and earnings manipulations internal investigation and inquiries by U.S. Securities & Exchange Commission.
  • Investigated commercial fraud and corporate malfeasance involving publicly listed insurance and mortgage company, and successfully represented company in investigative interviews conducted by Bankruptcy Examiners and U.S. Securities & Exchange Commission.
  • Performed internal investigation on behalf of political media consulting company of employee embezzlement scheme; efforts resulted in restitution, complete payment of insurance policy limits, and parallel criminal conviction of embezzler for fraud.
  • Performed internal investigation for aviation parts supplier in connection with product liability exposure issues; efforts resulted in creation of enhanced quality assurance compliance program and continued marketing of product.
  • Successfully represented Chief Executive Officer of consortium of coal supply companies in multimillion dollar breach of contract actions; secured complete dismissal of "veil piercing" claims filed against CEO at early motions stage of consolidated proceeding.
  • Represented former high-ranking executive of Tyco in connection with an investigation by the U.S. Securities & Exchange Commission regarding accounting irregularities.
  • Represented president of a leading mechanical contractor charged in public corruption indictment in an action for advancement and indemnification of fees.
  • Successfully represented corporate executive in administrative enforcement action involving export control violations; achieved outright dismissal of all claims at the pre-hearing stage.
  • Successfully represented corporate executive in fraud and accounting action involving failed real estate venture; obtained complete dismissal of all claims shortly after initial appearance.
  • Represented cooperating witness in construction fraud investigation conducted by Manhattan District Attorney's Office in connection with witness' pre-sentencing application for reduction in sentence for extraordinary cooperation.
  • Counseled health care provider on federal sentencing guideline issues stemming from provider's plea agreement.
  • Represent businesses and public entities which suffered business interruption and property damage losses in September 11th attacks in an action against foreign-based businesses, banks, and financiers which materially supported Al Qaeda.
  • Represent American and Israeli victims of terrorist attacks in international law action against Middle Eastern bank which incentivized and facilitated terrorists and attacks.
  • Advised one of the United States' largest and most well known non-profit organizations on USA Patriot Act compliance issues.

Professional Background
Mr. Leonardo began his career by serving as an Assistant District Attorney with the Manhattan District Attorney's Office where he successfully investigated and prosecuted felony crimes ranging from fraud, conspiracy, and criminal misuse of public benefits, to serious violent offenses such as robbery, assault, and attempted murder. Mr. Leonardo performed jury and bench trials, litigated hearings, and ran long and short term grand jury investigations. He later joined Dickstein Shapiro LLP and served as Litigation Counsel in both the firm's Antitrust & Financial Services and Business Litigation Practices as well as its White Collar Crime and Government Investigations group.

Professional Activities
Mr. Leonardo is admitted to practice in New York and the District of Columbia. He has litigated matters in various federal and state courts throughout the country. He is a member of the New York State and District of Columbia Bar Associations.

Since August 2006, Mr. Leonardo has served as a member of the adjunct legal faculty of American University's Washington College of Law, where he teaches Legal Rhetoric and Writing.

Mr. Leonardo received his B.A. in political science from Gettysburg College (1993). He received his J.D., cum laude, from American University's Washington College of Law (1997), where he served as a note and comment editor for the Administrative Law Review.
